You know the drill. You need an approval workflow, a pricing rule, or a report that doesn't exist out of the box. So you write a spec, brief a developer, wait for a sprint, review the output, request changes, and wait again. A two-hour customization takes two weeks.
HydraAI is a chat panel inside ERPNext. You describe what you need in plain English, and it builds it on your development site: workflows, custom fields, reports, print formats, scripts, notifications and data imports. It works through your own login, so it can only do what your account is allowed to, and it checks its own work before it tells you it's done.
What you can ask it for
Approval workflows. "Quotations over ₹5 lakh need a Sales Manager's approval before they go out." Hydra sets up the states, the transitions and who can move a document between them, and stops people approving their own documents.
Reports. "Submitted purchase orders from the last three months, grouped by supplier, filterable by warehouse." You get a working report built against the fields your site actually has.
Fields and record types. New fields on an existing form, or a whole new record type linked both ways, so each one shows up on the other.
Print formats. Describe the layout, or attach a sample PDF, and Hydra builds the invoice or delivery note format from it.
Rules that run on save. Checks and automatic updates when a record is saved, written as server scripts that are test-run before they're saved.
Data imports. Attach a spreadsheet. Hydra matches your columns to the right fields and runs the import through ERPNext's own Data Import tool, so you get a proper import log and can re-run only the rows that failed.
Why not just use a general AI chatbot?
We tried. Paste an ERPNext question into a general assistant and the answer looks right until you notice it references fields that don't exist, ignores Frappe's permission model, or borrows patterns from Django that don't apply.
Hydra is different in four practical ways:
- It reads your site first. Before building anything, Hydra looks at how your site is set up: the real fields, roles and installed apps. What it makes fits your setup, not a generic template.
- It knows your version. Hydra checks the documentation and source code for the Frappe version you're actually running, so advice for version 15 doesn't get applied to version 16.
- It checks its own work. Server scripts and script reports are test-run in a sandbox before they're saved, field names are checked against your live site, and after every change Hydra reads your site again to confirm the change took effect. It tells you what it verified and what it couldn't.
- It never has more access than you. Every action runs under your own login. There's no hidden admin account, and Hydra's servers hold no key to your site.
Three ways to work with it
Fast is the default. Describe a small, clear change and Hydra builds it straight away. Good for the day-to-day: a field, a rule, a report tweak.
Plan is for anything bigger. Hydra writes out what it intends to do, as a plan you can edit in plain words, download and approve. Nothing changes until you press Proceed.
Ask is read-only. Not sure how something works in ERPNext? Ask. Hydra can look things up but can't change anything.
Who it's for
Business users and accountants. Describe the approval step or the tax rule you need. You bring the accounting knowledge; Hydra handles the ERPNext side.
Functional consultants. Go from a client conversation to a working setup in the same session, and spend your time on requirements instead of scripts.
In-house IT teams. Build and iterate without waiting on external consultants for every customization.
Frappe developers. Skip the scaffolding. Hydra handles fields, workflows and reports so you can spend your time on the logic that actually needs a person.
From your development site to production
Hydra is meant for a development or sandbox site, not your live one. When you're happy with a change, the Changes Made card lists everything Hydra created or updated. Tick what should go live and press Migrate: Custom Migrator writes the changes into your app's code and opens a pull request, and Espresso deploys it once your team merges. Nothing reaches the live site without approval.
